Job Duties:

This position reports to the TDCJ Victim Services Division Headquarters in Austin, Texas OR at the West Hill Mall in Huntsville, TX. This positions work schedule is Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend hours as needed. Duties include providing an opportunity for victims or surviving family members of violent crime to initiate an in-person meeting with the TDCJ offender responsible for their victimization, per Code of Criminal Procedure art.

Day-to-day functions include:

Facilitate Victim Offender Mediation Dialogue (VOMD) processes between victims or surviving family members and eligible incarcerated or paroled offenders in accordance with TDCJ policies, procedures, and established restorative justice practices.

Conduct pre-dialogue preparation and assessments with victims, family members, and incarcerated or paroled offenders to determine readiness, appropriateness, and safety considerations for participation. Meetings are typically conducted in person statewide, with offender meetings held at prison units or parole offices.

Provide participants with clear information regarding the VOMD process, expectations, confidentiality, voluntary participation, and the roles and responsibilities of all parties.

Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed environment while remaining victim-centered throughout the mediation process.

Facilitate structured dialogue that allows participants to communicate the impact of the offense, ask questions, express emotions, take responsibility and work toward understanding accountability and appropriate restorative outcomes.
