MTSI partners with government and industry customers to solve complex technical challenges and advance critical national security missions.
Position Overview
MTSI is seeking a Plume Modeling Analyst to support technical analysis of missile plumes and related infrared signatures. The successful candidate will apply physics-based modeling, simulation tools, and empirical data to characterize infrared phenomena, evaluate model performance, and improve technical intelligence assessments.
Key Responsibilities
Apply established plume modeling codes and scientific tools to analyze missile plumes and associated infrared signatures.
Analyze empirical sensor data and modeled outputs to characterize infrared phenomena and assess model accuracy.
Compare model predictions with observed data and evaluate relevant signature and performance characteristics.
Develop technical reports, special-case analyses, and data packages documenting methodologies, assumptions, results, and conclusions.
Evaluate modeling tools and techniques against Government-identified analytical requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve modeling approaches, analytical methods, and supporting technical products.
Collaborate with engineering, scientific, and intelligence teams to address complex technical problems.
Maintain documentation of modeling procedures, inputs, outputs, and results.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in physics, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, computational science, or a related technical field.
At least five years of relevant experience in scientific modeling, simulation, infrared signature analysis, or computational physics.
Experience using analytical or simulation tools to evaluate physical phenomena.
Ability to interpret empirical data and model outputs and communicate findings through technical reports.
Strong quantitative, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with missile plume modeling, infrared signatures, combustion, heat transfer, or related physical phenomena.
Knowledge of infrared radiometry, spectral characteristics, radiative transfer, or sensor phenomenology.
Experience with community-standard plume modeling codes or comparable scientific simulation tools.
Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar scientific programming languages.
Experience validating models against empirical data and evaluating uncertainty or sensitivity.
Experience supporting OPIR, missile warning, aerospace, or other national security missions.
Master's degree or doctorate in a relevant technical discipline.
Education
Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline; advanced degree preferred.
Security Clearance
Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. U.S. citizenship is required.
