Agency contact: Laura Rawson, Personnel Manager, lrawson@mdah.ms.gov About the Position The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) seeks a museum educator to serve on the education and programming team at the Two Mississippi Museums. The educator will demonstrate a growing knowledge of Mississippi history and the exhibits at the Two Mississippi Museums. They will lead interpretive experiences, assist in developing student and teacher learning materials, and design and implement educational programs for the public and K-12 students. The educator will also assist with interpretive training for contract staff and volunteer docents. In addition, they will provide backup for visitor services, help with cleaning and maintenance, and represent the museum at community events. Other duties as assigned will also be part of their responsibilities. What you'll need to be Successful The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative team environment, show enthusiasm for learning new information, and demonstrate confidence in public speaking. They will be comfortable engaging with diverse audiences and effectively communicating Mississippi's history to museum visitors, including K-12 students. Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time, typically one(1) to two (2) hours, while conducting museum tours. Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of experience. This position typically requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, along with at least one year of experience related to the duties described above. Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in history, education, or communications.
