THE POSITION
As a Forensic Scientist Trainee with the Bureau of Forensic Services, Harrisburg Regional Laboratory, you will take part in work that supports justice across the Commonwealth. This role gives you the opportunity to learn advanced laboratory techniques while developing confidence in real forensic tasks. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role introduces you to laboratory practices used to examine trace evidence and controlled substances. You will learn essential skills that support accurate testing, clear reporting, and proper handling of evidence. As a Forensic Scientist Trainee, you will perform the following duties:Laboratory Analysis: Conduct qualitative and quantitative testing on trace evidence and drug samples using approved scientific methodsSkill Development: Gain hands-on experience in physical, chemical, and instrumental examination techniques during structured trainingDocumentation Accuracy: Maintain complete and precise records of all testing procedures and results in case filesEvidence Handling: Follow proper techniques for collecting, preserving, and receiving evidence to support courtroom readinessPolicy Compliance: Follow all safety, quality assurance, and procedural standards outlined by the Pennsylvania State PoliceCourtroom Support: Provide expert testimony on analytical methods, chain of custody, and examination results when requiredInterested in learning more? REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
