About the Position

Conduct reviews of solid waste management facility permit applications, permit modification requests, and related projects and develop draft permits and/or recommendations based on the results of those reviews. Coordinate permit reviews through the Electronic Data Management System (enSite).
Coordinate the review of solid waste permit projects with solid waste planning staff, geologic and engineering specialists, solid waste compliance staff, air and water permit writers, and other internal and external agency reviewers.
Review engineering reports, plans, specifications, and other technical documentation to ensure compliance with applicable solid waste laws, regulations, policies, and guidance.
Manage public solicitation and public participation processes for assigned solid waste management permit projects.
Provide general guidance to potential applicants regarding solid waste permitting requirements and procedures and respond to questions and requests for information from the general public and other stakeholders.
Assist in maintaining and updating application forms, processes, procedures, regulations, and guidance documents as needed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the solid waste permitting program.
Conduct site visits and perform other special duties as assigned by management.

What you'll need to be Successful

A successful candidate will possess strong analytical, technical writing, and organizational skills and be able to manage multiple permitting projects simultaneously. The candidate should be capable of reviewing engineering and environmental reports, interpreting regulations, and communicating effectively with applicants, consultants, agency staff, and the public. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively while coordinating multidisciplinary permit reviews and meeting regulatory deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering, preferably with courses in environmental engineering and possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Hiring agency prefers:
A Bachelor's Degree in an engineering curriculum from a school or college approved by the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as of satisfactory standing, preferably with courses in environmental engineering;
