THE POSITION
Begin a meaningful career as a Corrections Counselor 1 with the Department of Corrections (DOC). At the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene, you will support individuals as they work toward positive change and stronger decision-making. This role allows you to build valuable professional experience while helping inmates develop the tools they need for successful reentry into the community. Your commitment will make a lasting impact on the progress of those you serve.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position assists with counseling and casework services that support inmate adjustment, issues, and preparation for re-entry. As a Corrections Counselor 1, you will perform the following duties:Inmate Counseling: Provide inmates with support to address adjustment needs and encourage positive behaviorCase Management: Update records and assist with coordinating information with staff and outside agenciesAssessment Review: Conduct aptitude and interest tests, research socio-demographic histories, and utilize case records to make recommendations to programming Treatment Support: Work with multi-disciplinary teams to align programming, activities, and behavioral expectationsParole Preparation: Assist with re-entry planning and by gathering required documents used to prepare parole reports and recommendationsWork Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employment, 40 hours per weekWork hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,436.00 (before taxes). You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; orA bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; orAn equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once
