THE POSITION

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our treatment team at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Dallas! By becoming a Corrections Counselor 1, you will have a positive impact on the lives of inmates by providing them with counseling and helping them adjust to the institution. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will provide counseling services and casework management to inmates at SCI Dallas. Your work will involve interviewing inmates to facilitate their institutional adjustment, assist with issues that are inherent in a correctional setting, and provide encouragement. This may sometimes involve consultation in resolving personal and family problems and providing referrals and guidance for inmates to develop social, educational, and vocational skills that are necessary to make a positive re-entry into the community. You will also help inmates obtain information regarding employment opportunities, procedures for job applications and retention, and availability of community resources. As a counselor, you will develop, maintain, and present records and reports for managing an inmate caseload. You can expect to analyze aptitude and interest tests, then utilize assessments to determine recommended programming. Additionally, you will participate in parole planning and make recommendations on re-entry services.  Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employment, 40 hours per weekWork hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,436.00 (before taxes).You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; orA bachelor’s degree in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; orAn equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in sociology, coun
