THE POSITION
Do you want to help create meals that bring comfort and care to veterans every day? As a Cook 1 with the Southwestern Veterans' Center, you will help create nutritious and enjoyable meals for the residents who rely on your skill and dedication. This position gives you the opportunity to work with a wide variety of ingredients and cooking equipment in a supportive environment. You will help ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and to high standards. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role focuses on preparing meals for residents while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. The position also includes operating cooking equipment, managing inventory, and supporting the daily workflow of the food service team. As a Cook 1, you will perform the following duties:Equipment Operation: Use ovens, fryers, mixers, skillets, and other kitchen equipment in accordance with safety guidelines and established kitchen workflowsFood Preparation: Prepare meats, vegetables, soups, and desserts for regular and therapeutic dietsSanitation Tasks: Clean utensils, equipment, floors, and work areas to maintain a sanitary kitchenInventory Management: Record food and supply usage and assist with requisitions and inspectionsRecipe Handling: Measure, package, and label ingredients and help test new recipesTeam Coordination: Guide Food Service Workers and assist in training new CooksInterested in learning more? REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
