THE POSITION
Bring your legal expertise to the front lines of civil rights enforcement. As an Attorney 1 with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, you have a chance to make a real difference in communities across the state. This position gives you the opportunity to apply your legal training to help enforce important laws that protect people from discrimination. Join our Chief Counsel Office to support fairness, equality, and justice while building a rewarding public service career.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the work of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission by providing legal representation and guidance on discrimination matters. The role helps ensure that the Commission meets its responsibilities under state law. As an Attorney 1, you will perform the following duties:Legal Representation: Represent the Commission in discrimination complaints, appeals, and complex legal mattersCase Support: Provide legal guidance to staff and prepare legal opinions on case issuesDocument Preparation: Draft subpoenas, responses, conciliation agreements, and related legal documentsResearch and Review: Conduct legal research and examine findings, hearing requests, and regulatory materialsPublic Engagement: Respond to public inquiries and present to groups on discrimination lawTraining and Development: Assist in staff training and maintain current knowledge through seminarsInterested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employmentWork hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Graduation from an accredited school of law and certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania; orCompletion of all preparatory steps and application to become a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.Post Employment Requirement:Applicants must be cer
