THE POSITION

As an Aquatic Biologist 2 in the Southcentral Region’s Dam Safety, Waterways, and Wetlands Program, you will be essential in reviewing and guiding transportation projects to ensure they comply with environmental standards, helping to protect our streams and wetlands. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will work as an Aquatic Biologist 2 in the Dam Safety, Waterways, and Wetlands Section of the Southcentral Region. Your main task will be to assist with permit reviews under the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act and the Clean Streams Law. You will assess transportation projects to ensure they comply with environmental regulations, safeguarding aquatic resources and fulfilling state permitting standards. You will collaborate with various PennDOT districts, specifically Districts 2, 5, 8, and 9, which span several counties in the region. This role is funded by the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act and is essential for promoting environmentally sustainable transportation planning and development. Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employmentWork hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.Travel may be requiredTelework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:One year as an Aquatic Biologist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); orOne year of professional experience in aquatic biology or water pollution
