OPEN TO FORMER CITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY EMPLOYEES ONLY -- RETURNING LIFEGUARDS PAY$13.00 - $14.25 Hourly The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.Seasonal employment is expected to begin on April 15 and last through October 15, 2026.PREFERRED LIFEGUARD PROGRAM INCENTIVE: $100.00To receive the incentive, applicants must:Have worked the summer of 2025 as a Lifeguard with the City of Oklahoma City; andSubmit an application by 11:59 p.m., February 27, 2026; and Accept a conditional offer of employment by March 6, 2026; andMust have submitted hiring paperwork, including background investigation forms, by the end of business March 20, 2026; andMust have completed the drug screening by April 17, 2026; andMust have completed all mandatory training, including orientation by May 15, 2026; andMust work all scheduled shifts during the week of May 22-28, 2026. ADDITIONAL INCENTIVES:$200 - Bonus for working 100 hours from May 23 to June 30, 2026.$200 - Bonus for working 100 hours from July 1 to July 31, 2026.$100 - End of season bonus for working through September 3, 2026.Note: All approved incentives are contingent upon employee being in good standing without performance issues.APPLICANT INFORMATION: This position requires applicants to be at least 16 years of age at the time of application submission. POSITION DESIGNATION This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.JOB SUMMARYThis position is located in the Recreation, Health, and Wellness Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is responsible for monitoring activities at a municipal swimming facility, protecting the safety of all swimmers, and providing emergency care when needed. Typical duties include: observing swimmers and enforcing rules and regulations of the facility; cautioning swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; maintaining order in the pool and adjoining areas; rescuing swimmers in distress or in danger of drowning; and providing rescue breathing, CPR, and First Aid. Other duties may include: maintaining a safe/clean swim environment, indoor and outdoor, which includes cleaning restrooms, picking up trash, emptying trash cans and securing the areas. The necessary skills, knowledge, and ability and/or licenses and certifications to perform departmental specific tasks must be acquired within the first month of assuming the position. Applicants for this position must have completed Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module prior to performing duties and responsibilities requiring such licenses and certifications.OTHER DETAILSNote: This position requires you to be at least 16 years old at the time you make application.Note: If you are under the age of 18 at the time you make application, you must print, complete, sign, and have a parent or legal guardian sign the "Authorization for Applicant Background Investigation/Verification, Drug Test, and Health Screen" (FORM B--MINORS) and bring it with you to interview for a temporary, part-time or seasonal job in the Parks and Recreation Department. Failure to bring the signed authorization form may eliminate you from employment consideration.Note: Applicants for the position of Lifeguard must complete Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module within the first month of assuming the position. The City provides low-cost lifeguarding and Certified Swimming Instructor classes for those who are interested in serving as a lifeguard for the City's Parks and Recreation Department. Training includes basic water rescue skills and emergency first aid. Multiple training class times and dates available. Note: This position will occasionally accept cash and make change; operate a concession stand or gift shop; and collect fees, admission tickets, and passes from patrons at various events or City facilities.
