General Maintenance Technician IV - Facilities Support Supervisor

Job Description

Under limited supervision from the Facilities Maintenance Manager at the Office of Materials and Research (OMR), manages the Safety Program for OMR labs and employees. Establishes policies and provides technical assistance in the area of laboratory safety. Conducts periodic safety inspections of the SCDOT central lab, district labs, and asphalt verification labs statewide; assists in correcting any discrepancies noted. Maintains required materials safety data sheets. Trains new employees in laboratory safety. Oversees the fire safety requirements for all OMR facilities. Assists with establishing and enforcing HAZMAT procedures and provides assistance to lab units in disposal of hazardous waste.

Performs high-level maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment used in the testing of highway construction materials including ovens, compactors, shakers, and specialized technical equipment at the central lab, district labs, and asphalt verification labs. Receives incoming equipment and assists with installation and maintenance. Assists with disposal of old equipment.

Assists with OMR facilities maintenance and upkeep including repairs involving electrical, plumbing, and HVAC; general and laboratory supplies; and grounds. Assists with OMR vehicle transactions and preventative maintenance. Supervises custodial activities at the central lab.

Performs purchasing and payment activities associated with SCEIS-SRM. Prepares operational reports as required including Energy Consumption and Workers Compensation. Performs annual Fixed Asset inventory and assists with required documentation. Performs other related duties as assigned.

A high school diploma and one and one-half (1.5) years of trades experience related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor operator's license is required.
