DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This individual will plan, coordinate, and direct the activities of field maintenance crews within the operations for the Bridge Maintenance Section. Responsibilities include ensuring that staff have the necessary supplies and properly functioning equipment to complete assigned tasks efficiently and safely. The role involves analyzing and resolving issues related to personnel, equipment, and operations, as well as recommending and implementing changes to improve overall efficiency. This position will create work orders for all tasks performed by direct reports, review each work order for accuracy and completeness, and ensure minimal errors. All relevant data must be accurately entered into the Infrastructure Management System (IMS), with daily tracking and closure of completed work orders. The individual will monitor and evaluate crew performance on a daily basis and review operational policies and procedures. Additional duties include training new employees, overseeing the preventive maintenance of assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment, and providing leadership and motivation to foster professional growth and development among team members. Assist with daily operational tasks as needed; drives City vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance field are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in maintenance and heavy machine operation.**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such people possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such people are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
