Director Rehabilitation Hospital Physical Therapy

Job Description

The Director Rehabilitation Hospital Physical Therapy directs, plans, and manages all professional inpatient therapy services necessary to facilitate the functioning of the Physical Therapy Program at the Department of Health's Helen Hayes Hospital. The incumbent coordinates physical rehabilitation and other patient care services on an inpatient basis. They supervise inpatient Program Directors, professional therapists, and lower-level staff. The Director Rehabilitation Hospital Physical Therapy increases management effectiveness by implementing and maintaining appropriate human resource goals, procedures, and activities. They also complete all required documentation and communication as per hospital program guidelines while administering and managing programs assure quality care.

Minimum Qualifications:
Transfers: Current New York State employee with possession of a license and current registration to practice physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech language therapy in New York State; and one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 25 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law to Director Rehabilitation Hospital Therapy.
Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have possession of a license and current registration to practice physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech language therapy in New York State; and must be a current NYS Department of Health Helen Hayes employee with two years of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a rehabilitation therapy title at Grade 22 or higher.
Open Competitive Minimum Qualification: Possession of a license and current registration to practice physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech language therapy in New York State; and five years of post-licensure experience, two years of which must have been at a supervisory level.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will be a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in area of clinical practice (PT, OT, SLP). APTA board certification by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS), American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) advanced specialty certification, Speech Language Pathology advanced Board Certified Specialist (BCS) by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). They will be a current active surveyor for CARF International. The preferred candidate will have strong experience and understanding of acute and skilled nursing rehabilitation operations, regulatory requirements, The Joint Commission standards and surveys, and interdisciplinary care models. Knowledge of CMS, CARF and state regulations. They will have the ability to align clinical programs with organizational goals, quality metrics, and financial performance. They will ensure compliance with documentation, admission criteria, and quality reporting standards.
