Job Duties:

Performs moderately complex legal work, including interpreting laws and regulations, preparing legal documents, and consulting with attorneys. Works under general supervision with limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Provides liaison with agency staff, administrators, external agencies, legislative staff, and the public; represents the agency at meetings, hearings, trials, legislative sessions, and conferences; and coordinates with the Office of the Attorney General on litigation affecting the agency. Supports litigation activities by monitoring cases, preparing summary reports, and assisting with settlement reviews. Reviews laws affecting agency operations, offers legislative and policy-related legal guidance, and assists in strategic planning and compliance.

Conducts contract review, assists with drafting and negotiating agreements, ensures compliance with applicable laws and agency policies, and provides related guidance to program staff. Reviews and responds to Texas Public Information Act requests; coordinates with the Office of the Attorney General as needed; and provides legal guidance on employment and personnel matters, including EEO complaints, accommodation requests, ADA and Rehabilitation Act compliance, disciplinary actions, and civil rights inquiries.

You have graduated from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

You have two years full-time wage-earning experience as a licensed attorney.

Organized, good time management, ability to travel, ability to work independently and collaboratively.

You'd be a GREAT fit if:

You have experience as a legal counsel in a governmental agency, and/or experience in administrative, contract, criminal, and/or labor/employment law.

You program development experience in a legal field, Litigation experience in state or federal court, and /or experience in the supervision of employees.
