Job Description
The employee in this position is primarily responsible for assisting with municipal solid waste collection services in order to ensure that solid waste generated at residential households and government buildings and facilities is collected, transported, and disposed of by the Authority in an appropriate manner.• Travels aboard the Authority's collection trucks and collects refuse on designated routes within the territory and transfers refuse from bins and at bin sites and any other container into the solid waste collection truck.
• Inspects solid waste materials left for collection and alerts the Sanitation Truck Driver and Sanitation Supervisor if the material(s) appears to contain prohibited wastes.
• Assists with the operation of the solid waste collection truck in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize risk of injury to the employee and ci?? property damage, and loss of life.
• Performs daily vehicle safety and maintenance checks and assists with minor vehicle repairs.
• Cleans solid waste collection trucks as scheduled or required.
• Performs duties in a safe manner and in accordance with Authority safety requirements.
• Interacts in a courteous manner with fellow employees1 customers and members of the public.
• Assists in implementing the Authority's solid waste rules, regulations and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.High school diploma or GED;• Knowledge of solid waste collection and disposal procedures.
• Knowledge of acceptable and prohibited wastes.
• Knowledge of vehicle equipment cleaning standards and procedures.
• Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
• Ability to lift 90 lbs. or more.
• Ability to deal with the public in a positive, courteous and respectful manner.
• Demonstrate sound work ethics.
• Good health and agility.
• Ability to work long hours and outdoors under varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with management, customers, and other staff members.
