About the Agency

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development and much more. It is the mission of MDRS to provide appropriate and comprehensive services in a timely and effective manner. Programs and services assist individuals with disabilities to gain employment, retain employment, and to live independently. About the Position

This position is with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind. The Rehabilitation Associate I works under the supervision of a Rehabilitation Specialist to assist in providing quality and timely services to consumers. The Rehabilitation Associate authorizes for services, while maintaining good customer service with consumers and vendors. Other duties includes maintaining confidential case files, office management, and documenting contact made with consumers and vendors.

The Rehabilitation Associate I duties include, but not limited to: assists in taking referrals and intakes, contacts consumers and documents the contact made, schedules appointments for consumers and notifies consumers by sending letters, completing itineraries, receives and routes incoming mail, receives and directs telephone calls to the appropriate staff, maintains office filing and confidential case files, operates computer and other office equipment, maintains casework budget, and issues and pays authorizations for services provided to consumers.

What you'll need to be Successful

Must have good customer service skills. Good oral and written communication skills are required to be proficient in this position. Must be able to multitask, solve problems, and prioritize tasks in providing quality services to consumers in a timely manner. Individuals need to be proficient in computer skills and basic math skills in order to maintain casework budget and pay/process authorizations. Individuals should be detail oriented and organized.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 0-2 years of related experience. Agency preferred qualifications:
An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university;
OR
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma) and two (2) years of experience related to the described duties.
