THE POSITION
As a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, you will be part of a dedicated team that provides essential care to people in need! This position offers a meaningful way to support the well-being of inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mercer while strengthening your clinical skills. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the daily medical needs of inmates by carrying out essential nursing responsibilities and assisting in the delivery of quality care. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:Nursing Support: Provide basic nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, giving medications, and carrying out routine treatmentsInmate Observation: Monitor inmate behavior and report physical or emotional changes to clinical staffEmergency Response: Assist in medical emergencies by delivering first aid, CPR, or other urgent support when neededRecord Management :Maintain electronic health records and assist with reports for transfers, releases, and daily documentationMedication Handling: Prepare, administer, and document medications in line with clinical orders and safety proceduresSupply Maintenance: Sterilize equipment, manage inventory, and ensure treatment areas remain stockedInterested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employment, 40 hours per weekWork hours will be discussed during the interview. Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work hours will be determined from the following shifts:2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AMThis position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.You will receive further communication regarding this position via email.
