About the PositionThe County is conducting a search for a senior level General Clerk IV to support the Department of Public Works and Transportation's emergency dispatch communications program. This role serves as the primary communication link between residents, County personnel, public safety agencies, utility providers, and outside agencies during routine and after-hour operations. Employees will be responsible for operating multiple communication systems simultaneously to document and maintain operational continuity in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Work will include maintaining continuous situational awareness of field operations, tracking emergency roadway conditions, updating communication logs and ensuring effective communication between field staff, leadership and partnering agencies. This is an essential position. Incumbents may be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.About the AgencyThe Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area -- all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T's workforce keeps the County's various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.
• Receives and prioritize emergency and non-emergency service requests from residents, County personnel and partner agencies.
• Monitor two-way radio traffic and dispatch roadway maintenance emergencies.
• Support County emergency operations during declared emergencies and inclement weather events.
• Document service request in customer relationship management (CRM) system.
• Maintain logs and operational documentation for reporting compliance purposes.
• Monitor video security system to ensure continuous safety and system functionality
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:
• Must have experience at the General Clerk III level equal to the length of the probationary period of six months (6)
OR
• Completion of High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of education above the high school level which includes coursework in computer data entry, secretarial subjects or business administration.
• Six (6) months of experience performing diverse clerical tasks
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.
All qualified candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to operate radio communication and computerized management systems.
• Knowledge of dispatching principles, emergency communication protocols and incident prioritization.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
• Proven customer service and interpersonal skills are a must.
