THE POSITION
The Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic position with the Department of Transportation offers a meaningful way to support safe travel across the state. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment powered by gasoline or diesel engines. The work supports safe operation, reliable performance, and compliance with state requirements. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:Vehicle Repair: Repair cars, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment by replacing parts and restoring proper functionPreventative Maintenance: Complete routine servicing tasks to extend equipment life and reduce breakdownsInspection Work: Conduct official state safety and emissions inspections and ensure compliance with required standardsDiagnostic Procedures: Use approved tools and methods to identify mechanical problems and determine repair stepsSafety Practices: Maintain a clean work area, follow safety rules, and take actions that prevent injuries and accidentsField Adjustments: Carry out minor repairs and performance adjustments in the field to support safe operationInterested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employmentWork hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.This position may require travel, overtime, and dual shifts. Dual shifts in effect November through March.Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes).You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); orTwo years of journey level mechanic experience in the di
