The Department of Corrections is seeking a dynamic and driven Utility Plant Operator to join our physical plant team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for overseeing an inmate work crew in the performance of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler plant equipment at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will guide an inmate work crew in the maintenance and operation of boilers, generators, and related equipment under normal and emergency conditions. You will utilize manual and automatic control operation systems while reading and interpreting gauges and sensing devices. Duties include performing scheduled and non-routine maintenance and operational assessments, as well as cleaning and maintaining equipment to ensure proper functionality. Additionally, you will operate and maintain auxiliary equipment such as pumps, draft fans, control equipment, and ash systems. This role requires your ability to work independently to analyze problems and implement technical decisions to ensure continued operation of plant equipment. Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 40-hour work weekWork hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with pass days on either Friday and Saturday or Sunday and Monday. A shift differential of $1.25 per hour applies.This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes).
