About the Position

This position is located within the Mississippi Department of Corrections in George County, Mississippi and is designated as a time-limited (NS-14) appointment.

This is a journey-level professional position responsible for the coordination, oversight, and evaluation of correctional programs within an assigned facility or operational unit. The incumbent performs a critical role in ensuring program effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and the safe and secure operation of institutional activities.

Responsibilities may include administering and monitoring specialized programs such as disciplinary investigations, internal affairs reviews, agricultural or farm operations, surveillance activities, and other institutional initiatives essential to facility operations. The position requires independent judgment in handling complex assignments, conducting investigations, analyzing findings, and preparing detailed reports and recommendations.

In contrast to entry-level roles, this position is expected to manage more complex program areas, address sensitive or confidential matters, and support leadership in maintaining institutional integrity and accountability. The incumbent may also collaborate with custody staff, administrative personnel, and external stakeholders to ensure programs align with agency policies, state regulations, and operational goals.

This role demands strong analytical ability, sound decision-making, and the capacity to operate effectively in a structured, security-focused environment.

What you'll need to be Successful

A successful Correctional Program Specialist has the ability to communicate effectively, ability to provide technical assistance, and ability to maintain records of program operations. Must be able to abide by the MS State Personnel Board and MDOC rules, regulations and procedures governing the agency and operate in accordance with state and federal laws.
