The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania would like to consider you for our Civil Engineer Trainee program! Apply today! Multiple positions may be filled. This position will prepare for a Civil Engineer position by completing a 12 month Civil Engineering training program. The work performed during this training period will develop practical proficiency in the use of engineering knowledge, skills and abilities in a bridge engineering, transportation engineering and or soils engineering environment. This position could be permanently assigned in either Design, Construction or Maintenance. DESCRIPTION OF WORK The Civil Engineer Trainee (CET) will attend and actively participate in all assigned phases and rotations as designated in the Civil Engineer Training program. Rotations include assignments at the District Office, Field Operations, and possibly Central Office in Harrisburg. Perform Civil Engineering assignments to develop engineering skills and to achieve working knowledge of all phases of PennDOT operations. Assignments are to be completed in accordance with the training program and as directed by the position supervisor or assigned phase/rotation supervisor. These assignments will include but not be limited to: conducting preliminary engineering studies, analyzing field conditions, inspecting construction and maintenance projects, geo-technical reports, preparing or reviewing designs for highway or bridge projects, bridge safety inspections, analyzing traffic patterns and preparing recommendations to address traffic safety issues, and conducting the testing of materials, assists in other related duties as required for the training phase. Attends various relevant training and meetings outside the basic training program and phases/rotations in order to prepare for the Civil Engineer position placement to be assigned by the end of the training period.Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employment.Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.Telework: Limited telework eligibility during probationary period, per supervisor's discretion.Salary: Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $66,328 (before taxes).You will receive further communication regarding this position via email.
