Job Description
As a Youth Recreation Specialist 1, you would be responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the youth recreation activities in an Office of Children and Family Services residential facility. Up to 20% of your time would be spent in dealing with physical education activities required by NYS Education Department regulations. If assigned to a smaller residential facility, you would serve as the head recreation professional. Under the guidance of facility management, you would also be responsible for the development and direction of the recreation program.

Minimum Qualifications:
Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer;
OR
Open to the Public: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).* The minimum qualifications through the NY HELPS are:
Four years of experience working in a physical education or sports oriented recreation program primarily for youth between the ages of 10 and 21;
An associate degree may substitute for two years of specialized experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of specialized experience.
This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
