PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS:Pay Range: 416Hourly Rate: $24.70 - $38.35FLSA Status: Non-ExemptThe normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City's step placement policy.*This position may be underfilled as a Mechanic I with a pay range of 414 - $22.65 - $35.06 hourly.ELIGIBILITY LIST PREFERENCE ORDERFull-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.JOB SUMMARYThis posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Fleet Management Division of the General Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Master Mechanic I is primarily responsible for diagnosing and repairing equipment malfunctions, estimating repair costs, writing service orders and providing other employees with on-the-job training related to automotive repairs and maintenance.VETERANS PREFERENCEHonorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSApplying knowledge and principles of automotive mechanics.Diagnosing and providing service for various equipment malfunctions.Performing major repairs of gasoline and diesel automotive equipment.Utilizing knowledge of mechanics, methods, tools and techniques.Exercising initiative and independent judgment.Communicating effectively to convey technical information to inquiring City employees and co-workers.Performing other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSPossession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). Possession of a current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Automobile (including Light Truck) Certification.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENTPossession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement.Possession of a current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Medium-Heavy Truck Certification or ASE Master Automobile (including Light Truck) Certification.NOTE: Employees are responsible for providing their own hand tools if required by the department.NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License or Class B with Hazmat Endorsement for Fire Department employees, within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining the specified Commercial Driver License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain ASE Master Automobile (including Light Truck) certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining the required ASE Master Automobile (including Light Truck) certification within twenty-four (24) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.NOTE: Fire Department employees will be required to possess or obtain ASE Master Medium-Heavy Truck certification or Master Automobile (including Light Truck) certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining the required ASE Master Medium-Heavy Truck certification or Master Automobile (including Light Truck) certification within twenty-four (24) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.NOTE: If an individual is selected who does not possess the specified Commercial Driver License and/or a Master Automobile (including Light Truck) certification, that individual will be classified as a Mechanic I and compensated at the Mechanic I salary range until such time as required licensure and certification is obtained.
