Job Description
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Review business and technical requirements to identify test conditions.
• Develop detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts.
• Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks and reusable test scripts.
• Ensure automation integrates with CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing.
• Execute automated test suites across different environments.
• Perform functional, regression, smoke, performance testing.
• Execute manual tests when automation is not feasible or for exploratory testing.
• Identify, document, and track defects in qTest.
• Provide clear reproduction steps, logs, and screenshots.
• Collaborate with developers and business users to resolve defects.
• Validate data integrity and perform backend testing using SQL or APIs.
• Ensure compliance with NYSIF standards, accessibility guidelines, and security requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
For appointment via NY HELPS:
• NYSIF employee with one year of permanent, competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1; OR
• Bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science; OR
• Bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field AND one year of experience in information technology; OR
• 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science AND one year of experience in information technology; OR
• Two years of experience in information technology.
Note: Certain math and business courses although taken as part of a computer science curriculum, are not counted towards the 15 semester credit hours.
For competitive appointment:
• Reachable on current Civil Service eligible list for this title.
• Transfer: Current New York State employee with one year of permanent competitive class service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 or Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law. Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades. Eligible titles include, but are not limited to: Administrative Specialist 1; Contract Management Specialist 2; Human Resources Specialist 1
• Reinstatement: Candidates who have previously held the Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) title, or a transferable title, may be eligible for consideration for reinstatement.
For 55b/55c Program appointment:

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience with Tricentis Tosca, Tricentis qTest, and Azure DevOps, including test automation, test management, and application lifecycle management.
