Job Description
The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) is the state's student financial aid agency, responsible for centrally administering New York's major college aid programs. It oversees grants, scholarships, loan-forgiveness programs, and related services - including flagship programs like the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), the Excelsior Scholarship, and other State scholarships. HESC awards nearly $1 billion in financial aid to more than 330,000 students each year.
As a member of the Innovation and Transformation Team, this position will work with HESC's Innovation and Transformation Team and other Program Teams on an array of duties including but not limited to:
1. Review existing requirements to ensure that they are complete, feasible, and testable.
2. Work directly with business analysts, program subject matter experts, and technical staff to create robust test plans, test scenarios, and test cases based on business requirements and functional specifications.
3. Review existing test cases and provide recommendations on improvement as well as create new test cases where gaps exist.
4. Design, develop, and execute manual and automated test cases.
5. Develop and maintain automated test scripts using UFT.
6. Manage test artifacts, defects, and test cycles using ALM.
7. Develop and implement quality assurance and user acceptance testing processes/procedures.
8. Assist in set-up and utilization of software testing tools for evaluating the functionality and performance of software applications.
9. Review test scope, test execution results, and tester feedback to identify gaps, issues, and areas requiring clarification or retesting.
10. Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables.
11. Create the quality standards, procedures and policies for FAS Modernization applications.
12. Leverage best practices, work with development and program areas to create test data and test environment refresh protocols.
13. Develop and maintain requirements traceability to ensure test cases are aligned to approved business and functional requirements.
14. Document, track, and support resolution of defects identified during system testing, regression testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing.
15. Prepare testing status updates, summaries, and reports related to test execution progress, defect trends, risks, and open issues.
16. Supervise, train and mentor subordinate staff.
17. Perform occasional business analysis work as assigned.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Seven (7) years* of Test experience, including but not limited to system regression, end to end implementation, automated, performance, and smoke testing. This experience must include the development of Testing plans (functional, regression, integration, system, and user acceptance testing), Test cases, Requirements Traceability Matrix, Test scripts, including automation of testing and quality assurance plans.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
• An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience
• A bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience
• A master's degree may substitute for five years of experience
