Job Summary:
The Department of Animal and Rangeland Science is seeking an hourly, short-term Faculty Research Assistant: Upland Game Bird Analyst. This is a part-time (0.25 FTE), 12-month position. This position is expected to last approximately 12-months.
The incumbent will compile research data for abundance, occupancy, population dynamics, and habitat use analyses for studies conducted by the Dinkins Lab. Focus will be on peer-reviewed publication writing for game bird studies, including sage-grouse, sooty grouse or similar species. Other research topics will be analysis of hunting systems related to upland game birds. Develop and implement methodology for research and collection of data, maintain accurate records, create and maintain database management systems, run quantitative analyses of data, and interpret results/provide conclusions based on findings. Prepare reports and manuscripts focused on effectiveness of management actions on game birds (sage-grouse, sooty grouse or similar species) for presentation and use in peer-reviewed manuscripts and Extension publications and conferences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
:
Doctoral-level degree

Familiarity with upland game birds, particularly sage-grouse and sooty grouse, and their hunting systems necessary.
Knowledge of data collection techniques, including using and analyzing data from population surveys, marked birds, and hunting survey data necessary.
Knowledge of estimating detection probability in statistical models necessary.
Experience working with sagebrush wildlife or similar species necessary.
Knowledge in using Program R and ArcGIS. Knowledge of wildlife statistics necessary.
Demonstrated collaboration with wildlife management agencies or analogous stakeholder groups.
Demonstrated ability to write technical and peer-reviewed research papers necessary.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with partner agencies.
Ability to foster an inclusive and collaborative research environment.

Hourly $30.00-$36.00
