Job Description
The New York State Senate is seeking applicants to fill the position of Deputy Director of Legislative Operations for the Senate Majority Counsel and Program Office. The Deputy Director of Legislative Operations reports to the Director of Legislative Operations and the Legislative Counsel. The position is responsible for performing the following duties:
• Providing central staff support for the Senate Majority Conference on matters related to Senate legislative procedures and operations.
• Tracking review processes, procedures, and data relevant to legislative committee operations, legislative floor operations, State Budget proposals, priority legislation, and appointments to official state positions.
• Providing training and technical support for Majority Senators' Legislative and Committee staff.
• Preparing, editing and distributing briefing materials for members of the Majority Conference.
• Assisting Senators with scheduling and preparation for committee meetings, public hearings and other meetings and events.
• Coordination with Majority and Minority Senators' offices to ensure compliance with Constitutional Home Rule requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Strong organizational and quantitative analysis skills are required. Proficiency with the Legislative Retrieval System (LRS) and Microsoft Office suite are required, and experience with spreadsheets and/or database systems is preferred. All candidates are expected to live and work in the Capital Region of New York. Preference will be given for candidates with demonstrated legislative experience or a Juris Doctor.
