PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS:Pay Range: 413Hourly Rate: $21.66 - $33.62FLSA Status: Non-ExemptThe normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City's step placement policy.ELIGIBILITY LIST PREFERENCE ORDERFull-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. If there are no qualified full-time City employees or part-time/year-round City employees, external applicants will then be considered (when the vacancy is open to external applicants). This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. JOB SUMMARYThis posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Water Quality Division (Atoka) of the Utilities Department with the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The Water Supply Mechanic Trainee receives on-the-job training from a Water Supply Mechanic II or other more senior individuals and works closely with other facility personnel in performing inspection, maintenance, and repair tasks of pipeline and pump station, facilities, equipment, and machinery. Essential job functions include: performing a variety of tasks related to the general maintenance of equipment and facilities; making minor and major mechanical repairs on pipeline and pump station machinery and components. The Water Supply Mechanic Trainee must possess the mechanical aptitude necessary for disassembling and assembling various pump and valve components and recognizing equipment malfunctions to ensure pipeline and pump station machinery remains in operable condition. Assignments are received in oral and/or written form with work performed subject to periodic inspections by a supervisor or other mechanics. Due to direct occupational health, safety and environmental concerns associated with performing both routine and non-routine water and/or wastewater operations, maintenance, and production tasks, the Water Supply Mechanic Trainee is a safety sensitive classification. Therefore, current and prospective employees are required to meet and maintain specific physical standards and guidelines. VETERANS PREFERENCEHonorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. JOB REQUIREMENTS Skill in using various small and large hand tools.Ability to utilize latest computer software or technology, record keeping tools, and information.Ability to perform general maintenance on pipeline and pump station equipment and facilities.Ability to follow verbal instructions.Ability to make audible and visual determinations.Ability to perform minor and major mechanical repairs of pipeline and pump station machinery and components.Ability to retain and recall information.Ability to work with others.Ability to operate light and heavy equipment.Ability and willingness to meet and maintain physical health standards and guidelines for the work performed.Willingness to perform semi-hazardous and hazardous tasks.Willingness to exercise established environmental safety precautions for the work performed.Must live in a location within thirty (30) minute drive from assigned facility on the pipeline.Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).Possession of Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Right of Way.Possession of Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Aquatics. NOTE: Water Supply Mechanic Trainee is an interim or temporary classification for otherwise qualified individuals who do not meet the full licensing requirements of a Water Supply Mechanic I and/or Water Supply Mechanic II. NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License with twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Right of Way within ninety (90) days from date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Aquatics within ninety (90) days from date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class D Water Operator license for water systems within twelve (12) months from date of hire/promotion/ transfer/demotion. NOTE: The employee will be required to live in a location within thirty (30) minute drive from assigned facility on the pipeline within six (6) months from date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. NOTE: Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining the required licensures and certifications within the above listed timeframes from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. NOTE: The Water Supply Mechanic Trainee will career progress to the Water Supply Mechanic I classification without a competitive selection process when the Water Supply Mechanic Trainee incumbent acquires all of the following: Class A Commercial Driver License; Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Right of Way; Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Aquatics; Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class D Water Operator license; and Certified Maintenance Technologist Level I Certification.COMPETENCIESOne City, One Team
