This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. JOB SUMMARYThis posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Water Quality Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The Water Quality Technician is primarily responsible for performing standardized test on water, wastewater, and wastewater samples to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards. This position requires knowledge of and skill in the application of laboratory techniques gained prior to assuming the position. Essential job functions include: receiving and driving to collect water and wastewater samples; operating laboratory equipment and media used in the chemical analysis of samples; performing standard chemical, bacteriological and physical examinations on various samples; analyzing samples for various parameter to determine the level of compliance with existing water and/or wastewater treatment standards, regulations, and guidelines; and maintaining secure chain of custody of samples. Other duties include: compiling analytical data, completing necessary calculations and generating detailed reports; completing various forms, logs, sampling labels, or other documents; inputting and retrieving data from computer system; maintaining accurate records on results of laboratory test; maintaining laboratory equipment; and cleaning and disinfecting glassware, laboratory equipment and work area. The Water Quality Technician has frequent contact with the supervisor, general public, and other City personnel to exchange information regarding tests, policies and procedures. The work is performed independently, following verbal or written instructions, with work product reviewed by the supervisor for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to instructions. VETERANS PREFERENCEHonorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Class C Laboratory Technician License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining a valid Class C Laboratory Technician License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. NOTE: To career progress to a Senior Water Quality Technician, a Water Quality Technician must possess a current fully-competent performance evaluation; demonstrated skill performing the "Demonstration of Capability" tests for all wet chemistry laboratory and microbiology tests; ability to successfully complete all assigned performance test samples for the assignment rotation and ability to successfully complete all quality control samples for wet chemistry and microbiology.
