The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development and much more. About the Position

This position is with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB) and performs a full range of professional vocational rehabilitation assignments and work. This position is located at the Addie McBryde Rehabilitation Center for the Blind. The Vocational Training Instructor III is an essential position supporting the Personal Management class, a core component of the agency's curriculum. This role provides critical instruction to blind and visually impaired clients in independent living skills, with a strong emphasis on meal planning, food preparation, kitchen organization, and safety. The instructor plays a key role in helping clients develop confidence, independence, and skills necessary for daily living and employment readiness. Essential duties and responsibilities included but not limited to:
• Provide direct instruction to blind and visually impaired clients in independent living skills, primarily through the Personal Management class.
• Teach clients how to plan and prepare healthy meals, including menu planning and grocery preparation.
• Instruct clients in organizing and managing a kitchen environment using both electric and gas appliances.
• Provide comprehensive training in kitchen safety to ensure clients can safely and independently perform daily living tasks.
• Deliver instruction in planning, managing, and preparing meals for special dietary needs, including but not limited to diabetic, renal, and heart-healthy diets.
• Utilize and demonstrate specialized adaptive equipment and techniques tailored to individual client needs.
• Assist with service training for the Business Enterprise Program (BEP), supporting client preparation for employment opportunities.
• Maintain accurate documentation of instruction, client progress, and outcomes in accordance with program standards.
• Collaborate with other instructional and rehabilitation staff to ensure continuity and quality of services.
• Support program continuity by delivering consistent, high-quality instruction aligned with agency goals and curriculum standards.
