About the Position

This role is a supervisory level position responsible for leading a small team of system administrators and keeping the agency's infrastructure reliable, secure, and compliant. The focus is on strong technical execution, clear standards, and disciplined leadership. This position sets direction, drives consistency, and ensures the team maintains the level of security and uptime the State of Mississippi requires. Responsibilities related to this position may include: overseeing daily operations of the agency's server, virtualization, and cloud environments; hands-on leadership and the ability to work with other teams as well as independently; enforcing configuration baselines, patching cycles, monitoring, and documentation standards; maintaining a clean and predictable environment with no exceptions, no guesswork; leading the administration of Active Directories, identity services, DNS/DHCP, backups, and enterprise applications; ensuring the team follows best practices; ensuring all systems align with statewide ITS policies, the Enterprise Security Program, and agency security requirements, including account and device hardening when appropriate; coordinating directly with ITS regarding network, security, hosting, and incident response activities; ensuring vendors and partners are held to the same standard as the team; including OTSI Directors and CIO on all communications with ITS; driving hardening, vulnerability remediation, log management, and privileged access controls; maintaining the highest level of integrity regarding security, coordinating these practices with the agency CISO; planning and executing upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle refreshes; designing and maintaining systems that can resist disruption, maintain continuity, and restore operations with minimal impact; building a culture of accountability within the team, including but not limited to setting expectations, verifying results, and addressing performance issues directly and professionally; developing a team both technically and operationally including providing opportunities for training / certifications; delegating appropriately while still owning the outcome; providing escalation support for complex system issues and guiding the team through structured problem solving, including effective communication with other OTSI teams and Leadership.
