DPH seeks to hire a Physician with expertise in epidemiology to serve as the Delaware State Epidemiologist and to oversee the DPH Epidemiology Section, reorganize current assets, and establish the Office of Rural Health Epidemiology (ORHE). The State Epidemiologist will lead a diverse group of highly specialized epidemiology experts who work in the areas of infectious diseases, environmental health, maternal child health, chronic diseases and rural health. This is particularly needed as DE commits to more closely address the health needs of its rural dwellers and other vulnerable populations. This position will also provide direct patient care when assigned (via telemedicine or in-person).

Serves as the designated State Epidemiologist and oversees
the work of epidemiologist staff and non-epidemiologist staff within the DPH
Epidemiology Section.
Directs statewide epidemiology activities including but not
limited to surveillance, investigation, reporting and response activities for
infectious diseases, chronic diseases, environmental conditions, maternal
health and other conditions of public health significance
Serves as Delaware Epidemiology's liaison with federal and
regional partners including but not limited to CDC, CTSE (Council of state and
territorial epidemiologists)
Analyzes and interprets surveillance, laboratory, and
population health data to identify disease trends, assess health risks, and
inform public health policy, clinical guidance, and resource allocation
decisions.
Provides medical and scientific consultation to state and
county health officials, healthcare providers, and community partners during
public health emergencies including but not limited to issuing clinical
advisories and recommending control measures
Performs direct patient care in person or via telemedicine

Six months experience in practicing medicine in a hospital, clinic or private practice.
Six months experience in health or human services program administration such as overseeing and directing the development, implementation and evaluation of health or human services programs and services; planning and establishing short and long range program goals and objectives. Providing advice to other agency organizational units through consultation.
Demonstrated experience in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics or management of large datasets.
