What you'll do as a Software Development Specialist 1:
Under general direction from assigned Information Technology Supervisor to develop &/or modify programs for computer applications, perform testing & debugging & assist with analysis & design.
Reads, writes, extracts &/or reports from individual file(s).
Creates &/or modifies existing program modules (i.e., the creation of static content or graphics related to web-design is not software development).
Uses report generators, data manipulation tools, data query tools, program tracing/debugging tools, software development tools & versioning tools as required.

Qualifications
Option 1:
36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
Option 2:
-Or completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems
AND
18 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
Option 3:
-Or completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems
AND
12 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.

This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). Whoever fills this position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.
