Senior IT Project Manager

About the Job: The City of Colorado Springs is looking for a Senior IT (Innovation and Technology) Project Manager who will manage multiple complex IT projects from initiation through close-out while coordinating teams, tracking progress, and proactively addressing risks and issues. This position will also include building strong cross-functional relationships, providing leadership to junior project managers, and translating business needs into technical solutions.

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a Sr. IT Project Manager, you will:
• Manage multiple large/complex IT projects simultaneously from requirements gathering to project close-out and transitioning to Operations Support

• Complete key project deliverables with minimal oversight (project charter, schedule, relevant plans (communication, risk management, go-live, etc.)

• Build strong, collaborative relationships with business units, technical teams, and vendors to deliver valuable solutions on time and within budget

• Provide leadership and mentorship to junior project managers; act as a subject-matter expert for complex projects

• Drive project communication by clearly articulating status, risks, issues, milestones, and decision points to stakeholders and leadership

• Proactively identify and mitigate project risks and change impacts; acts independently to resolve issues and maintain project momentum

• Oversee project ticket/task management, ensuring timely completion of tasks needed to keep projects on time

• Translate business needs to technical resources and translate technical options to business users

• Other duties as assigned

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
• Project management best practices, project management methodologies, and business requirement gathering techniques.

Ability to:
• Independently manage multiple large IT projects

• Communicate clearly across diverse audiences and identify and resolve issues

• Mentor junior Project Managers

• Coordinate business, technical, and vendor teams to deliver high-value solutions on time and within budget

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study

• Five years of full-time, professional experience in a related field; including three years of administrator and/or supervisory experience.

• PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification

• Other Project Management or Business Analyst Certificates such as a PgMP (Program Management Professional) certification, CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management), SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework), ECBA (Entry Certificate in Business Analysis), etc.
