Safety Management Specialist I - $4,243 to $5,162 per month (SR-16, Step D to I)
Safety Management Specialist II - $4,590 to $5,588 per month (SR-18, Step D to I)
Safety Management Specialist III - $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR-20, Step D to I)
Safety Management Specialist IV - $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)

The Safety Management Specialist (SMS) I position serves in a trainee capacity, receiving formal and on-the-job training in the principles, concepts, work processes, regulations and reference materials fundamental to technical and professional aspects of a safety management system and programs requiring Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification; and performs other related duties as required. The Safety Management Specialist (SMS) II position s erves in a trainee capacity, receiving formal and on-the-job training, in work processes, precedent situations, SMS, and FAA regulations relative to certificated airports; performs a variety of basic and routine assignments consistent with training status; and performs other related duties as required. The Safety Management Specialist (SMS) III position performs basic reviews, inspections and evaluations of safety and certification program components for airport operations; implements SMS program performing reviews, inspections and evaluations of airport facilities and grounds, airside and landside as assigned; performs other related duties as required.
The Safety Management Specialist (SMS) IV position plans, organizes and executes safety and certification programs for airport operations, including aircraft rescue and firefighting; implements SMS to assess safety management components, such as safety policy, safety risk management, safety assurance and safety promotion; collects and analyzes data, providing system evaluation; takes corrective action as needed; may perform internal evaluations; performs other related duties as required.

To qualify, applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements:
Education : Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor's degree.
Specialized Experience: Pr ogressively responsible (1) professional work experience in a safety or risk management program with responsibility for developing policies and procedures; (2) conducting inspections and evaluations of facilities and operations for compliance; (3) recommending and implementing corrective actions; and (4) developing training curriculum and conducting training of personnel. Such work experience may have been performed in a line, staff or management capacity, and must have demonstrated strong technical knowledge of FAA directives, laws, rules and regulations relating to airport certification and safety. SMS Level I : No experience necessary SMS Level II: Six (6) months of progressively professional work experience as noted above. SMS Level III: One and one-half (1-1/2) years of progressively professional work experience as noted above.
SMS Level IV: Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of progressively professional work experience as noted above.
Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants must possess the supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspect of supervision, by serving as a group or team leader, in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exits; or by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of superv
