Main Purpose/Focus of the Position:
This position leads the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program that produces and reports key economic data for Missouri, in partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The Local Area Unemployment Statistics program publishes monthly estimates of labor force, employment, and unemployment statistics at the city, county, Micropolitan Statistical Areas, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), and state levels. This position ensures there is accurate, timely, and high-quality labor force data to support decision-making in Missouri.

Lead
the
LAUS
program,
ensuring
high
quality
data
and
reporting
that
meets
the
required
performance deliverables of the program under the guidelines and requirements put forth by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in the Cooperative Agreement with the State of Missouri.
Prepare
and
verify
detailed
statistical
model
data
inputs.
Work
with
partners
from
other
states
to
ensure
quality
and
accuracy
of
cross-state
data.
Create
and
review
monthly
and
annual
estimates
of
labor
force
data.
Work
with
the BLS
Regional
and
National
Offices
to
ensure
data
quality
for
the
LAUS
program and troubleshoot any program improvements, changes, or issues.
Use
BLS
data
and
work
with
Office
of
Workforce
Development
to
create
annual
Areas
of
Substantial
Unemployment.
Serve as a back up to other statistical programs, including Current Employment Statistics.
Use
knowledge
of
state
and
local
economic
trends
to
collaborate
on
the
accuracy
and
publication
of
the
resulting
data.
Respond
to
data
requests
as
needed.
Effectively
use
a
variety
of
programs
such
as
Excel,
Word,
and
proprietary
program
software
to
ensure
program
performance.
Perform
other
related
work
as
assigned.
Demonstrate
regular
and
reliable
attendance.
Demonstrated
Knowledge,
Skills,
and
Abilities:
Knowledge
of
statistical
methods,
data
collection
and
dissemination,
sample
surveys,
and
quantitative
analytical
methods.
Ability
to
use
dashboards
and
reporting
tools
to
measure
and
guide
performance.
Knowledge
of
economic,
education,
and
labor
market
information
data
sets,
sources
and
uses.
Ability
to
innovate,
set
strategy,
and
adapt
as
program
needs
evolve.

Beneficial education and/or work-related experience includes technical or professional experience in research, data analysis, economics, business, public administration, or closely related area, including military service.
