PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS:Pay Range: 412Hourly Rate: $20.76 - $32.09FLSA Status: Non-ExemptThe normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City's step placement policy.ELIGIBILITY LIST PREFERENCE ORDERFull-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. If there are no qualified full-time City employees or part-time/year-round City employees, external applicants will then be considered (when the vacancy is open to external applicants). This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. JOB SUMMARYThis posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Big Blue Collections Section of the Solid Waste Management Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. Refuse Equipment Operator is a licensed, heavy-equipment driver primarily responsible for operating specialized heavy trucks and equipment for collection, transportation, and maintenance activities and/or projects. The skills, knowledge, and abilities required for full performance must be acquired prior to assuming the position. Incumbents must possess all necessary licenses and certifications prior to operating the assigned equipment and must successfully complete departmental training programs designed to enhance basic equipment operation, maintenance, and safety skills. Essential job functions include: driving and/or operating heavy trucks, such as automated or semi-automated side loaders, packer trucks, boom/grapple trucks, dump trucks, and tandem trucks, with related attachments; transporting refuse and bulky waste materials to disposal or collection sites according to daily work assignments; completing work assignments according to instructions from a supervisor; following established safety rules and regulations; reporting accidents, equipment break-downs, and/or unsafe conditions to a supervisor as required; performing routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment; completing routine forms and reports; and performing related duties as required and assigned. The incumbent may work independently or in conjunction with other workers. Due to equipment malfunctions, limited worker availability, or adverse weather conditions, a Refuse Equipment Operator may be expected to perform crew or maintenance-type tasks. Work instructions are received verbally and in writing, with work reviewed through inspection and written reports. VETERANS PREFERENCEHonorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement.
