Duties and Essential Functions of a Paralegal 2

Because the office is small, this position will be responsible for knowing how and excelling in all aspects of legal support and office administration without any management responsibilities. This includes but is not limited to reviewing information and drafting petitions based on that information, preparing court orders and motions, filing documents, reviewing discovery, calling and scheduling witnesses, and being part of a litigation team.
The subject matter of our work tends to be intense as our primary charge is supporting DCYF in protecting children subjected to child abuse and neglect. A successful candidate will be able to find strength and perseverance in the face of difficult fact patterns knowing that their work can improve the lives of others. Although this work is tough, the office is very supportive. Candidates who know how to care for their emotional and physical needs will succeed here and find that the office encourages them to take time to care for themselves so they can return to work fresh every day and support the most vulnerable populations in Washington State. While the duties can seem overwhelming at first glance, the desired candidate will understand the ebb and flow of duties and assignments and develop own processes, over time, to accomplish tasks with limited effort. The office staff and supervisor are willing to offer assistance during the training process and throughout the candidate's tenure, when tasks may be interrupted by filing, an influx of mail to be distributed, or other delay.
