Duties include, but are not limited to:

Preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarine with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life

Interpreting blueprints, technical manuals and shipyard procedures

Surface preparation and painting functions, which involves solvent washing, sanding and/or grit blasting

Measure and document paint thicknesses in order to maintain a high level of quality

Using various shop equipment including table saws, drill presses, routers, sandblast equipment, brush, roller, airless spray and other specialized equipment and air and electric hand held tools

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Required:

High school diploma/GED OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience

Available to work all shifts

Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required

Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools

Must be able to obtain and maintain respiratory qualifications

Preferred:

Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs

Painting experience in at least one of the following areas; Marine Industry, Industrial, residential, autobody or relevant trade experience and/or training

Mold makers, carpentry and masonry experience

Experience applying coatings via brush, roller, conventional sprayers & airless sprayers

Knowledge and use of Graco or equivalent painting tools & equipment

NACE certification

Ability to read blueprints and work with basic hand and power tools

Military experience

Skills

Ability to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
