Maintenance Field Supervisor ( SE22-1)( Continuous 2-5-25)

Job Description

This is highly skilled work in directing, supervising skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers, including students and other youth trainees in the areas of Carpentry, Masonry, Roofing, General Construction, and building trades, including Plumbing, Electricity, Exterminating, Painting, Care of Grounds and Building Equipment, General Plant Maintenance and Repairs and Preventative Maintenance.
Work involves the application of specialized knowledge in the building trades, and is performed with considerable independence in accordance with standard and/or accepted trade practices. Administrative supervision is received from a higher level officer regarding specialized work projects, plant maintenance and operating efficiency.
DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE):
• Makes periodic inspection of plant facilities to determine maintenance and repair needs, proper working condition and general operating efficiency.
• Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in one or more occupations.
• Studies production schedules and estimates man-hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
• Interprets and enforces company policies to subordinate employees.
• Enforces safety regulations.
• Interprets specifications, blueprints, and work orders to employees and assigns duties.
• Establishes or adjust operations to meet time lines using knowledge of capacities of equipment, machines and personnel.
• Recommends measures to improve service, production, equipment performance and utilization and work conditions.
• Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
• Recommends or initiates effective personnel actions, such as commendations, promotions, and disciplinary measures.
• May train other employees.
• May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials, supplies and/or equipment for specific jobs.
• May confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual section, activity centers, schools, divisions or other departments or agencies.
• Performs related work as required.
Successful completion of an approved course in building technology and facilities maintenance and at least six years of progressive responsible supervision in building repairs, construction or plant maintenance and repair work; OR
Completion of twelfth(12th) grade and eight (8) years progressively responsible except at the journeyman level in two or more building trades such as plumbing /electrical wiring, carpentry, mechanical or refrigeration work, three (3); OR
Two (2) years' experience as a Maintenance Engineer II or its equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the department particularly as they relate to the activity to which assigned.
• Knowledge of the basic principles of supervision.
• Knowledge of the elementary principles and practices of the building trades.
• Considerable knowledge of the principles of designs and construction of buildings.
• Ability to plan, organize and supervise subordinate staff engaged in a variety of routine or general repair and maintenance activities.
• Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and to provide training and guidance to others.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers and all other persons contacted during the course work.
