Application must be completed in full.Position Summary:Performs complicated machine work to provide efficient and timely parts requests in an economical and efficient manner. Handles incoming work requests and individual work orders for machined equipment, assists the Foreman to administer available parts and labor toward equipment maintenance while organizing and assembling machining requests for customer welding and machinist repair orders. Assists in troubleshooting and repair of equipment. Key Responsibilities/Duties:Ensure machine requests are organized and given priorityMaintain a readily available supply of consumable materialsMaintain all parts and supplies using central stores and inventory systemsWork as a mechanic when needed to help with labor shortages and cleaningDispatch emergency services such as tire repair and repairs to equipment as neededSupervise shop safety of areas assignedCoordinate repairs and workload with the availability of timeMinimize cost by engineering alternative designsAssist the Foreman with complex or unusual assignmentsWork required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hoursWork a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisorAct in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)Perform other duties as requiredEducation/Experience:High School diploma or GED equivalent required4+ years machinist experience required in related fieldWelding certification requiredMust be able to perform machine work with and without the use of CNC softwareKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:Knowledge of machinist tools and equipmentKnowledge of mechanics, welding, and machinery Knowledge of all port related equipmentKnowledge of equipment partsKnowledge of computer drafting and designing skills to run machinery programsAbility to communicate with othersAbility to climb and be comfortable at heightsOrganizational skillsJudgment and quick thinking skillsAbility to give written and oral directionsAbility to produce both metric and standard threadingAbility to operate bed mills and lathes with CNC capabilityAbility to perform machine work with and without the use of CNC softwareA current, valid Texas driver's license is requiredA Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employmentKey Competencies Required:Achieve ResultsAnalytical Problem SolvingCustomer FocusEffective CommunicationPragmatic Decision MakingKnowledge of PHA safety rules and proceduresThis work site location of this job is:Central Maintenance Work Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
