THE POSITION

The Plant Protection Division of the Department of Agriculture is currently on the lookout for a dedicated individual to fill the role of Laboratory Assistant. In this position, you will play a crucial part in identifying samples from invasive insect surveys, contributing to vital entomology programs. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will play a crucial role in supporting the identification of invasive insect survey samples for various entomology programs. Your responsibilities will include utilizing a microscope and taxonomic keys to accurately identify insects from a range of samples, ensuring precise classification. Additionally, you will be tasked with pinning and curating insect specimens for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's insect reference collection, which is vital for ongoing research and monitoring efforts. You will also enter data from these samples into the necessary databases, maintaining meticulous records that contribute to the overall integrity of the program. Furthermore, you will assist the entomology staff in managing survey equipment, ensuring that all tools are properly maintained and ready for use. It will be essential to keep a detailed laboratory log of your activities to track progress and findings. Lastly, you may be required to undertake other entomology-related duties as needed, contributing to the broader goals of the team and enhancing your own expertise in the field.Interested in learning more? REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONSSpecial Requirement: You must be in possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or equivalent.Additional Requirements:You must be willing and able to work in Dauphin County, PA.You must be willing to work a temporary, full-time schedule without benefits.You must be available to work up to a 9-month position from approximately March 1 to September 29, 2026.You must be able to perform essential
