Job Description

Operates small equipment, powered tools, and hand tools to perform a variety of maintenance activities to include maintaining the building and grounds at Orangeburg Maintenance and District 7 Office. Tasks include lawn care and various activities to enhance the appearance of Orangeburg Maintenance and the District 7 Office. Operates a forklift in the loading of materials needed for maintenance operation such as earth materials, sand, clay and asphalt, and supplies. Operates Standard Dump Truck and hauling all types of material. Removes litter, debris and animals from roadway and rights-of-way. Flags traffic during road maintenance operations to protect workers, equipment, and the general public. Performs a variety of vegetation management activities using equipment such as powered hand tools (ie., chain saws, weed eaters, and backpack herbicide sprayers. etc.) Maintaining vegetation at intersections, driveways, etc., to improve sight distance and at various locations in Orangeburg County. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
