THE POSITION
Are you interested in working for a state agency that provides fishing and boating opportunities for individuals and families in Pennsylvania? The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is looking for a Fish Culturist 1 to join our team at the Huntsdale State Fish Hatchery. This position gives you the opportunity to assist in the propagation, care, and stocking of fish species to meet fisheries management goals. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Fish Culturist 1, you will learn how to collect and select brood stock while handling the fish in a manner that minimizes stress, injury, and mortality. You will also learn how to operate a fish stocking vehicle in a safe and timely manner, load and transport fish, monitor fish, and take appropriate action to deliver the fish in excellent condition. Work involves completing repairs and maintenance to buildings, equipment, and grounds in an effort to maximize efficiency of propagation, care, and stocking. If you enjoy working outdoors, care about natural resources, and are eager to learn the skills needed to raise and care for fish that support recreational fishing and conservations programs, we need you on our team!Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.Work Schedule and Additional Information:Seasonal, full-time employment, 40 hours per weekWork hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.This position may require some weekend, evening, and holiday work as well as standby time.This position does not receive medical benefits. Paid time off accrues after working 750 regular (non-overtime) hours in each calendar year.Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Graduation from high school or equivalent certification of formal training.Special Requirements:You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.Employee entering this classification must obtain a Commercial Driver's License that permits the operation of vehicles of 26,000 lbs. or more prior to completing their probationary period.Other Requirements:You must meet the PA residency requirement.
