About the Agency

Located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Biloxi, the MDMR manages all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economical uses of these resources that are consistent with environmental concerns and social changes. Our mission is to enhance, protect and conserve the state's marine interests.

About the Position

This is a time limited position (NS-14). This is advanced senior level technical scientific work in the Finfish Bureau of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources with responsibility for providing scientific expertise in the area of marine fisheries management and regulation. The work involves summarizing and analyzing marine fisheries recreational and commercial data, as well as data collected by the fishery independent projects executed by the Finfish Bureau. The incumbent assists in planning the development and implementation of long and short-term goals and plans for numerous fishery dependent and independent projects including conducting cooperative programs with stakeholders for the continued research and effective management of Mississippi's marine fisheries. Supervision is received from a Biological Program Coordinator or Bureau Director.

What you'll need to be Successful

Successful interaction with members of other local, state, and federal regulatory entities, special interest groups, and the public, speaking before large and small groups and demonstrated ability to provide assistance to stakeholders is required. The incumbent provides functional supervision over the field activities of marine fisheries scientists and technicians, provides specialized training, and may provide line supervision in the absence of the supervisor. The work is performed with independence and requires considerable judgment and discretion.
