PAY Pay Range: 413Hourly Rate: $21.45 - $33.29The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City's step placement policy.RESPIRATOR FIT/CARDIOPULMONARY TESTAll applicants considered for employment must be able to pass a respirator fit and cardiopulmonary test. Successful applicants must be able to utilize all safety equipment within its design capacities. (Examples: Fall protection/arrest systems, ladders/lifts, confined space entry gear, etc.).ELIGIBILITY LIST PREFERENCE ORDERFull-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. If there are no qualified full-time City employees or part-time/year-round City employees, external applicants will then be considered (when the vacancy is open to external applicants). This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.JOB SUMMARYThis posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Wastewater Quality Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City, and is under the general direction of an immediate supervisor. The Facilities and Plant Mechanic Trainee receives on-the-job training from a Facilities and Plant Mechanic II or other more senior individuals and works closely with other facility personnel in performing inspection, maintenance, and repair tasks of plant, facilities, equipment, and machinery. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Essential job functions include: performing a variety of tasks related to the general maintenance of equipment and facilities and making minor and major mechanical repairs on facility machinery and components. The Facilities and Plant Mechanic Trainee must possess the mechanical aptitude necessary for disassembling and assembling various pump and valve components and recognizing equipment malfunctions to ensure facility machinery remains in operable condition. Assignments are received in oral and/or written form with work performed subject to periodic inspections by a supervisor or other mechanics. Due to direct occupational health, safety and environmental concerns associated with performing both routine and non-routine water and/or wastewater operations, maintenance, and production tasks, the Facilities and Plant Mechanic Trainee is a safety sensitive classification. Therefore, current and prospective employees are required to meet and maintain specific physical standards and guidelines.VETERANS PREFERENCEHonorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. NOTE: Facilities and Plant Mechanic Trainee is an interim or temporary classification for otherwise qualified individuals who do not meet the full licensing requirements of a Facilities and Plant Mechanic I. The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class D Water Operator License for water systems or a valid Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class D Wastewater Operator License for wastewater systems within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion and obtain a Maintenance Technologist Level 1 Certification within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. NOTE: The Facilities and Plant Mechanic Trainee will career progress to the Facilities and Plant Mechanic I classification without a competitive selection process when the Facilities and Plant Mechanic Trainee incumbent acquires both the appropriate licensures and certification. Continued employment is contingent upon the Facilities and Plant Mechanic Trainee progressing to Facilities and Plant Mechanic I within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
