About the Position

This position will serve as Branch Manager of the Grants Branch within the Waste Division, directing the management of the State's nonhazardous solid waste assistance grant programs and supporting other similar grant or assistance programs. The manager will supervise and mentor two program staff as part of implementing these programs. The programs and activities include the following:
1. Administration of the Local Government Solid Waste Assistance programs, the Local Government Waste Tire Assistance Grants programs, and the Local Government Solid Waste Planning Grant programs. Activities for each grant program include budgeting of funds; timely review of grant applications; development and processing of eligible grant awards; communication with grantees on conditions, deadlines, policies, etc.; review and processing of requests for payment; and coordination with other MDEQ administration programs and Waste Division programs as needed.
2. Maintaining and updating necessary records and databases as needed for budgeting and reporting purposes.
3. Developing, maintaining, or updating program procedures, documents, and policies as needed.
4. Providing administrative support as needed to other related Waste Division grant and assistance programs including waste tire incentive grants, recycling cooperative grants, waste tire abatement program payments, and nonhazardous solid waste corrective action trust fund.
5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Chief. **This is a non-state service ( NS14), time-limited position with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality . **

What you'll need to be Successful

High performing, self-managing employee desired with strong organizational, time management and analytical skills, as well as effective communication and writing skills. Ability to create and manage basic accounting and budget spreadsheets and databases.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of experience. Agency preferred qualifications:
