About the Agency
Located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Biloxi, the MDMR manages all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economical uses of these resources that are consistent with environmental concerns and social changes. Our mission is to enhance, protect and conserve the state's marine interests.
About the Position
This position will serve as the Marine Fisheries Office Director. The office is responsible for regulating all commercial and recreational saltwater fishing in the State of Mississippi and for providing protection, conservation and management over all marine aquatic life. The incumbent will coordinate, develop and implement marine fisheries management recommendations and regulatory changes through the Advisory Commission of Marine Resources.
Primary responsibilities include supervising administrative staff; managing budgets, expenditures, and procurement activities; coordinating personnel actions and ensuring compliance with applicable state regulations and agency requirements.
This position serves at the will and pleasure of the Executive Director.
What you'll need to be Successful
Successful interaction with members of other local, state, and federal regulatory entities, special interest groups, and the public, speaking before large and small groups and demonstrated ability to provide assistance to stakeholders is required. This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and effective communication with diverse audiences.
Broad-based knowledge of overall agency mission, policies and procedures, and specific knowledge of the marine fisheries and seafood industry of coastal Mississippi and the Gulf of America is required.
